With a series of events, the Society took part in the international celebration of NATURA 2000 Day - May 21st. The activities are implemented as a continuation of a project: "Preparation and promotion of the process of development of European ecological network NATURA2000 in Istranca Mountain" CB005.1.12.135 – Interreg IPA CBC Bulgaria - Turkey Programme 2014-2020 of the European Union, which was completed by Society "Nature Park Sakar" in partnership with the Turkish non-governmental organization DAYKO.
To celebrate NATURA 2000 Day, on 22.05. in front of guests and admirers of Society "Nature Park Sakar" was presented a presentation of the work on the project aimed at the popularization of NATURA 2000 in the cross-border region of Bulgaria and Turkey. The participants were also provided with information materials and films made by Society "Nature Park Sakar" and DAYKO within the cross-border project.
The next day the team visited the surroundings of the Turkish town of Edirne and the valley of the Tundja River, which is an important bio-corridor connecting elements of the NATURA 2000 network in Bulgaria and potential such areas in neighboring Turkey. One of the key objectives of the NATURA 2000 network is to provide connectivity between individual protected areas. In this respect, similar bio-corridors at cross-border level are of utmost importance in the process of building NATURA 2000 in Turkey, as part of its accession to the European Union and the future of building the ecological network in the country.
