Society "Nature Park Sakar" launches an expert meeting on increasing numbers of wolfs and the potential risk of using poisonous baits in the region of Sakar Mountain

The meeting was held on 2 October in the building of State Forestry - Svilengrad.

Over the past few years, there has been an increase in livestock casualties in the Sakar area as a result of wolf attacks. Our representatives reported tensions among local farmers and an increase of the risk of unauthorized use of poisons in response to wolf damage. At the same time, data from partnering organizations Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds and Green Balkans show alarming trends in the decline of Imperial Eagle numbers, with the possibility of poisoning mortality.

In this regard, following our signal to the Ministry of Environment and Water, Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water - Haskovo held an expert meeting with various stakeholders and specialists - Green Balkans, Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds, representatives of State Forestry - Svilengrad, Regional Forest Directorate - Kardzhali, Bulgarian Food Safety Agency, representatives of the municipal administration, Hunting Associations, and the University of Forestry - Sofia. As for local breeders, there were single representatives.
