Bulgarian and Turkish experts identified three potential NATURA 2000 sites in Turkey

 On 26.10.2017 Society „Nature Park Saker“ and Turkish NGO„DAYKO”, with the experts from Green Balkans and the Thracian University in Odrinс, was held field studies and identification of potential NATURA 2000 sites.

 During the field studies identified three potential NATURA 2000 sites in the region of Turkish Strandja.  Igneada Forests and Wetlands, Dupnisa Cave and Igneada Wetlands. The building up of the NATURA 2000 network in Bulgaria and the territorial coverage of the network in the country, and the diversity of protected areas, was very interesting subject for the participants.

  Information meetings are part of a Project: “Preparation and promotion of the process of development of European ecological network NATURA2000 in Istranca Mountain CB005.1.12.135 – Interreg IPA CBC Bulgaria - Turkey Programme 2014-2020 of the European Union. The cross-border initiative is implemented in partnership between the two non-governmental organizations and aims to promote NATURA 2000. The aim is to bring local people, stakeholders, scientific organizations and institutions to the knowledge, experience and capacity to use in the process of Turkey's accession to the European Union and the building of the ecological network in the country.
