Local workshop for NATURA 2000 were held in Turkey

 Two local workshops for the European ecological network NATURA 2000 were held on 7th and 8th March in Turkey in the cities of Kirklareli and Demirköy. The focus of the local workshops was on NATURA 2000 in the forests. The events were organized by the Turkish partner DAYKO, with the participation of Society "Nature Park Sakar". Host event in Kirklareli on 07th March was the District Forestry Directorate, and the meeting was officially opened by the management of the Forest Management Directorate.The event was attended by forestry officials, representatives of NGOs and the local community.
Expert from Society "Nature Park Sakar" presented to the participants various topics related to NATURA 2000 in the forest territories. Over 80 different types of natural habitats are described in the forest areas and they play a key role in the overall functioning of the European ecological network. Also, the participants discussed the ideas for keeping deadwood, biotope trees and groups of old trees in forest areas. The next day, a similar meeting was held in Demirköy.

 The local workshops are part of a Project: “Preparation and promotion of the process of development of European ecological network NATURA2000 in Istranca Mountain CB005.1.12.135 – Interreg IPA CBC Bulgaria - Turkey Programme 2014-2020 of the European Union. The cross-border initiative is implemented in partnership between the two non-governmental organizations and aims to promote NATURA 2000. The aim is to bring local people, stakeholders, scientific organizations and institutions to the knowledge, experience and capacity to use in the process of Turkey's accession to the European Union and the building of the ecological network in the country.
